About BlueLine: Group/Members
BlueLine members, L-R: Kakki, Maya, Joel (front), JP (back), Brian (front), Ashley (back)

BlueLine was formed in the Fall of 1999 when several former members of Take Note! got the itch to start singing close harmony in a small, mixed-voice group. We held auditions to fill out the group, and we're still at it after the addition of several wonderful new members.

The name BlueLine comes from the Metro Line of the same name and is both an homage to the DC jazz legend Duke Ellington (composer of among other songs, "Take The A Train") and a reference to the bluesy, jazzy material we particularly enjoy singing.

The group has been a sextet for most of its existence, and has accomplished much, including:

  • Participating in the Mid-Atlantic Harmony Sweepstakes in 2000, 2001 and 2003;
  • Participating in the Sing Out for Shelter benefit (organized by the Augmented Eight) in 2002 and 2004;
  • Providing music for the Washington Cancer Institute's Service of Remembrance since 2000;
  • Performing joint concerts with groups such as Take Note!, Drastic Measures, the Humbuckers, the Tone Rangers, and others;
  • Participating in music series at Coolfont Resort, Jammin' Java, California Tortilla Grill, and Barnes and Noble;
  • Entertaining and educating high school students at Wilson High School and Chantilly High School;
  • Brightening the Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, anniversaries, and other special events of many families;
  • Celebrating jazz standards of the 1920's and 1930's with nursing home residents;
  • Randomly darkening the corners of Dupont Circle, Charlottesville, Harpers Ferry, Old Town Alexandria and other spots around the DC area.

We sing a variety of jazz, swing, sacred and contemporary music, and focus on close harmonies. Almost all our repertoire is purely a cappella, but a select few have a dash of percussion.

We have been working on a CD which we hope to complete soon.

BlueLine is a semi-professional group - it's an outlet for our combined musical passions, but stops short of being a full-time career. That said, we're very proud of the high level of musicianship and entertainment we bring to audiences throughout the greater Washington DC area.
